EMAR Chaff Deck

A practical and cost-effective tool to help farmers successfully control weeds. The apparatus was originally developed by farmers in 2008 to mechanically manage the problem of weed resistance in Australia.

The EMAR Chaff Deck system is mounted on the combine to channel chaff/weed seeds into compacted wheel tracks, therefore significantly reducing weed germination.

Because up to 95% of the weed seed entering the combine exits in the chaff, the Chaff Deck becomes a proven and effective weed control solution.

Features & Benefits

  • Significantly reduce weed seed germination. Here’s how:
    • Concentrate the weed seeds and chaff to the compacted wheel tracks, where they are less likely to grow and more likely to rot.
    • Lower spraying costs by isolating control of weeds to wheel tracks and only spray these areas. Some studies have shown a reduction of up to 80% in herbicide use when only the wheel tracks are sprayed.
  • Low running costs, low maintenance and minimal impact on power consumption.
  • Can be quickly removed from combine for cleaning or maintenance. Can also be disconnected when the operator wants to spread chaff across the field
  • Can be retrofitted to most popular combine models.
  •  Systems are supplied as a kit for installation by the farmer or dealer

More Information

  • When installed on the combine the chaff deck replaces the original chaff spreaders on the combine and redirects the chaff onto the system’s conveyor belts.
  • The chaff from the combine is placed in narrow bands (20 – 30cm) in the wheel tracks by the system’s conveyor belts. This concentrates the weed seeds instead of spreading them across the field.
  • All the biomass (chaff) from the combine is automatically directed onto the chaff deck.
  • The chaff component containing a high percentage (up to 95%) of the weed seeds present at harvest is delivered directly onto tramlines (behind the wheels) while the straw is chopped and spread by the spreaders
  • The farmers can decide their best option for the concentrated weed seeds in the wheel tracks based on their program; leaving the weed seeds to rot or targeting them with concentrated nozzles in their spraying program.

Kit includes:

  • Robust frame that mounts to the deck of the combine
  • Side skirtings to guide chaff onto Chaff Deck
  • Farmscan Jackal belt speed sensor (included for most models)
  • Conveyors equipped with premium cleated 24oz draper belt with V-track for enabling self-alignment.
  • Moulded covers with fitted skirts to positively place chaff on tramlines
  • Width adjustable deck to suit wheel tracks of your combine
  • Most models enable access to the header trailer hitch
  • Enable access to sieve area by unlatching the Decks and disconnecting the Quick-release hydraulics
